Which highlights what Vince Clarke knows better than anyone: the best things in life are deceptively simple - the synthetic kinetic, the pellucid arpeggios, the crystalline obviousness of the hits ('Victim Of Love', 'Stay With Me', 'A Little Respect", 'Love To Hate You', a list longer than an orang-utan's arm). By the time Andy comes slamming in with that "We'll be together again" at the start of 'Stop', if you aren't screaming along, you have no soul and I despair of you. Keep yer guitars, and yer history books: this man's [Clarke] self-created lineage (Depeche, Assembly, Yazoo, Erasure), this is CLASSIC POP. Clarke and Bell: the genius and the showgirl. They came.
